If every electronics manufacturer understood this humidity principle, they’d save themselves time and money.

An automotive company thought that an assembly containing an SOT-23 package was faulty and returned it to the manufacturer. The manufacturer tested it and reported that there was no trouble found. But the automotive company found, again, that the voltage was higher than it should have been.

That’s when Foresite got involved.

We found that the assembly performed differently in different humidities. Like we see so often, the environment where the assembly was manufactured was much less humid than the environment where the assembly was expected to perform. Polyglycols attract moisture present in the field and can cause an assembly to fail.

If an assembly’s failure cannot be replicated, we recommend trying a high humidity environment as your next step. Foresite customer's organization implemented this protocol as a cautionary step, and they're thriving now.
